Every single PVC wrap installed on a car today will, within 18\u201336 months, begin to crack, shrink, delaminate, and \u2014 here’s the part nobody tells you \u2014 leave behind an adhesive residue so aggressive that removing it costs more than the wrap itself. Calendered PVC is manufactured by stretching and flattening heated PVC resin between rollers. This process introduces internal stress into the material. When exposed to UV radiation, heat cycling, and moisture \u2014 i.e., the exact conditions of a car parked outdoors \u2014 calendered PVC begins to relax<\/strong>. The molecules attempt to return to their pre-stretched state. The result: shrinkage, cracking, and delamination.<\/p>\n

But the real horror is the plasticizer migration. PVC requires plasticizers to remain flexible. Over time, these plasticizers migrate out of the film and into the underlying paint. The result is a chemical interaction that permanently stains and softens the clearcoat. When the wrap is finally removed, the paint underneath is chemically altered.
